Great Barrier Reef


I will talk about history of the Great Barrier Reef.
The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef in the world. It is composed of about 3,000 individual reefs and about 900 islands.
The length of the coral sea is about 2,000 kilometers, the area of the sea is about 200,000 square kilometers, and the spread of the sea is about 20 to 240 kilometers. The coral layer has begun to be formed 15,000 years ago, and now the thickness of the coral reef reaches 152 meters at the maximum. About 350 types coral reefs are living, and many fishes and shells, fowl are inhabiting it. In 1981, Great Barrier Reef was registered as a nature heritage site. And it became a sanctuary for wildlife.
